Travis's MacBook Pro

Travis’s MacBook Pro was a Space Gray 14-inch MacBook Pro that Travis Yoon acquired in summer 2023 before his first year at the Juilliard School. He used it for composition, music notation in Sibelius, and coursework. Travis referred to the computer as his MacBook and did not give it a personal name.

Overview

The MacBook was Travis’s primary computer throughout his two years at Juilliard. He used it at Meredith Willson Residence Hall, during visits to The 146th Street House, while receiving leukemia treatment in New York, and after returning to his family home in Evanston. It held his completed scores, working files, and unfinished fragments, including material for ‘’이어받은 선율’‘.

Acquisition and Selection

Travis acquired the MacBook in summer 2023 before entering Juilliard as a violinist and composer. The selected configuration provided enough memory and storage for Sibelius notation projects and his academic work without adding upgrades beyond the standard M2 Pro configuration.

Hardware and Specifications

The laptop had a Space Gray aluminum enclosure, a 14.2-inch display, an M2 Pro chip with a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, 16 GB of unified memory, and a 512 GB solid-state drive. It weighed approximately 3.5 pounds.

Documented Use

Travis entered and revised his compositions in Sibelius, using the program’s playback function to compare the written score with the music he heard internally. He continued working on the laptop during ordinary visits to the 146th Street House and later brought it into his hospital room during induction chemotherapy.

When treatment made sustained notation difficult, Ezra Cruz used Travis’s MacBook as part of their scribe process. Travis described and hummed each part while Ezra entered the notation and played back the result. Travis remained the composer and the final authority on every correction. The process continued after Travis returned to Evanston and allowed him to complete ‘’이어받은 선율’’ while preserving other works in their existing states.

Preservation and Archive

After Travis died in August 2025, Ezra and the Yoon family preserved the MacBook’s completed scores, source files, partial movements, and fragments. Ezra did not complete unfinished music by inference. He retained the distinctions among finished work, working material, and unresolved fragments and kept Travis Yoon’s correct name attached to the files and credits.
